Definition
The Future Continuous Tense is used to describe an action that will be in progress at a particular time or during a particular period in the future.
Example:
- We will be studying for the exam this time next week.
Structure Formation
🔹 Affirmative Form
Subject + will + be + verb-ing + object/complement
Example:
- She will be working in London next year.
Note on “Shall”
In modern English, will is normally used with all subjects.
Examples:
- I will be working.
- He will be working.
Shall may still be used with I/we in formal or traditional British English, but it is not necessary for learning the standard Future Continuous structure.

Subject + will not + be + verb-ing + object/complement
Example:
- She will not be working in London next year.

Usage of Future Continuous
1️⃣ Action in Progress at a Particular Time in the Future
The Future Continuous is used to show that an action will be in progress at a specific moment in the future.
Example:
- I will be studying at 8 p.m. tonight.
2️⃣ Action in Progress During a Future Period
It can also be used to describe an action that will continue for some time during a particular period in the future.
Example:
- We will be staying in London next month.
3️⃣ Future Actions Expected to Happen as Part of a Normal Course of Events
The Future Continuous can be used for an action that is expected to happen naturally or routinely at a particular future time.
Example:
- Don't call me at 9 p.m. I will be sleeping.
Common Time Expressions
The Future Continuous is commonly used with expressions that refer to a specific future time or period, such as:
- this time tomorrow
- this time next week
- this time next month
- at 5 p.m. tomorrow
- at this time tomorrow
- tomorrow afternoon
